The technical term is Cryolipolysis. We call it CoolSculpting which is easier to say and a lot more accurate.

It’s a fair new in-office cosmetic procedure for getting rid of body fat without surgery. Just like it sounds, the process uses cold to eliminate fat.

We freeze the fat cells, literally. Fat cells are far more susceptible to cold than skin cells. Because of this, we can use a device that creates a sub-zero temperature at the skin. Your skin won’t be hurt, bit fat cells beneath the skin will be destroyed.

Yes, it’s cold. We find most of our patients can have a procedure with no pain killers or anesthesia. Patients can also return to their regular activities the same day. Because it is non-invasive, the risks that come with surgical procedures are eliminated.

CoolSculpting has amazing results on love handles and other bulges. We’ve toned buttocks and thighs as well.

You’re not going to see results the next day. Your body still has to flush out the dead fat cells. That takes a few weeks to a few months.

Once the fat cells are gone, that’s it, they are gone forever.

All the available studies, and our experience, have turned up NO long term side effects. Short term, you may have some brief redness. Think of what you skin is like after coming in on a really really cold day. Why does it work? Science believes the lights kill the bacteria which cause acne and other similar problems without affecting the skin. When blue light reaches the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin, it can help excite porphyrins, which are compounds inside acne bacteria. When activated by light, these porphyrins kill the bacteria from the inside out. This sets the Blue and Red light treatment apart from other procedures which actually affect the skin, like a chemical peel.

Light therapy for acne treatment works for the great majority of people. For a small minority of those who suffer, it doesn’t work or shows very little positive results. Because of this, it’s best to consult with experts before deciding on this kind of treatment.

This particular kind of light therapy is new. But the idea of using light to treat other problems is long established in medical science. For instance, ultraviolet light has long been known as an effective treatment for psoriasis.

A majority of us did it.  We rang in 2015 with full enthusiasm towards new weight loss and fitness goals. For those of you who stuck to your goals but the fat is still “sticking” — I wrote today’s post for you.
